Hello, welcome to the official online home of Parc y Werin!
Website headline: From everyone at the Parc y Werin Committee, happy new year!
Hello and welcome to our website! A website now viewed over one million times! We're glad you've taken the time to visit us. The Parc y Werin Committee is a residents group, based in Gorseinon, which originally formed on Friday 7th August 2015 but begun it's constitutional work on Sunday 1st November 2015. The committee is currently made up of volunteers from all over our community, who all share Parc y Werin as a common passion. The committee was originally set up to manage the save our park campaign. It's main aim was to petition and campaign against Swansea City Council's plans to build on 3.24 acres of Parc y Werin. During the save our park campaign the committee hosted 6 public meetings, delivered over 5,000 leaflets and obtained 3,127 signatures against the proposals. The Parc y Werin Committee even took the campaign to the National Assembly for Wales and Number 10 Downing Street. Members and friends of the Parc y Werin Committee were also broadcasted on local radio stations, BBC Radio Wales and the BBC and ITV News. Unfortunately, on Tuesday 8th December 2015 the council's planning committee voted 6 to 5 to build on a large percentage of the park. The Parc y Werin Committee and local residents thanks the 5 members of the planning committee for voting for what is best, keeping our park and for seeing common sense. On Monday 23rd November 2015 a formal Village Green Application was submitted by two community councillors. An application of this type, if approved, will place one of the highest protection orders on Parc y Werin – securing the area for future generations. Although this application is not related to the work of the Parc y Werin Committee – in a committee vote, the majority supported the application and as of March 2017 the application is still in place and will now be reponsible for a public enquiry in February 2017. The enquiry took place between 14 and 17 February. The Parc y Werin Committee supports the application as best it can. The Parc y Werin Committee worked to form a constitution and as of Sunday 1st November 2015 begun work to invest in Parc y Werin. This investment could see new and improved facilities, more community events, increased opportunities for wildlife and much more. The good work of the Parc y Werin Committee was recongised in a BBC News, both radio and TV, broadcast on Wednesday 7 September 2016. Parc y Werin is a large area of land with a full size football pitch, a pavilion, two bowling greens, an outdoor gym and a playground. There are two churches located next door as well as Llys y Werin, Princess Street Surgery and Gorseinon Hospital. The Parc y Werin Committee works independently and is under no circumstances affiliated with the local town council. Parc y Werin can be accessed off both Princess Street and Brynawel Road.
